Das neue Festivalformat der Wiener Festwochen setzt an vier Nächten experimentelle elektronische Musik in den Kontext mit globalen Clubkulturen. Für HYPERREALITY öffnet eine eigens adaptierte Location ihre Pforten. Das Festival widmet sich primär der Clubkultur aber featured auch Künstler*innen und Projekte an der Schnittstelle zu Performance, Pop und bildender Kunst. Die zentrale Idee des Clubs als Ort, an dem gesellschaftliche Zwänge und Mechanismen außer Kraft gesetzt werden und eine neue Gesellschaft erdacht werden kann, soll beim Festival for Club Culture erprobt werden.
Ein wichtiger Fokus von HYPERREALITY liegt auf Vertreter*innen zuvor unterrepräsentierter musikalischer Strömungen. Der Club wird dabei als ein diskursiver, paradigmenfreier Möglichkeitsraum definiert, in dem Begriffe wie “Gender”, “Sexualität” oder “Hautfarbe” in ihrer gesellschaftlich vordefinierten (binären) Bedeutung in Frage gestellt werden. Verschiedene Communities präsentieren sich in Form von Showcases und bilden neue Allianzen. Das Label Staycore wird anlässlich von HYPERREALITY mit der Veranstaltungsreihe und Plattform Bala Club erstmals als Balacore kooperieren. Showcases des zwischen Angola und Lissabon tätigen Labels Príncipe oder des Labels NON, die aus der Perspektive afrikanischer und in der Diaspora lebender Menschen starke inhaltliche und künstlerische Akzente setzen, zeigen binäre oder koloniale Strukturen der hiesigen Clubkultur auf. Einzelne Musiker*innen wie Tomasa Del Real aus Chile oder Mafia Boyz SA aus Südafrika vom Label Gqom Oh!, werden zum ersten Mal in Europa zu hören sein. An der Achse Detroit bis Berlin sind Musiker*innen wie Dr. Rubinstein, Ancient Methods oder Rezzett angesiedelt. Artists wie Princess Nokia oder Holly Herndon, die Popmusik und Rap mit queeren oder politischen Messages unterwandern, stehen ebenso auf dem Programm, das am 16. The Wiener Festwochen’s new festival format schedules four nights of experimental electronic music in the context of global club cultures. For HYPERREALITY a specifically adapted location opens its doors. The festival is mainly dedicated to club culture and features artists and projects at the interface of performance, pop and visual art. The central idea of the club as a place where certain social constraints and mechanisms are overruled and a new society is created shall be tested at the Festival for Club Culture.
An important focus of HYPERREALITY is on representatives of previously underrepresented musical currents. The club will be defined as a discoursive, paradigm-free space of possibilities in which terms such as "gender", "sexuality", and "skin colour" will be questioned in their socially-predefined binary meaning. Different communities are presented in showcases or form alliances. For the first time the label Staycore will cooperate with the Bala Club event series and platform, which will be staged as Balacore at the festival. Showcases of the Label Príncipe, performing between Angola and Lisboa, and the Label NON, which emphasises strong content and artistic accents from the perspective of Africans in and out of the diaspora, use their perspectives to highlight binary and colonial structures of club culture. Single musicians, such as Tomasa Del Real of Chile and Mafia Boyz SA of South Africa from the Label Gqom Oh!, will have their European stage debut. On the ax Detroit to Berlin artists as Dr. Rubinstein, Ancient Methods or Rezzet are settled. Artists at the interface of performance, pop, and visual art, such as Princess Nokia and Holly Herndon, who infiltrate queer and political messages into pop music and rap, are also on the program, which will be presented in its entirety on February 16th at the pressconference of the Wiener Festwochen and online at www.festwochen.at
